ABOUT US
Los Kakaoistas is more than a brand.
It is a community built around cacao with stories — cacao shaped by tradition, produced with care, and meant to be shared.
We work with small cacao farmers, producers, and indigenous communities who give back to their land and people.
Because we respect natural production cycles, our cacao is produced in limited batches and available while stocks last.

ABOUT US | CACAO ORIGIN STORIES
Our First Territory — Costa Rica
Our cacao is sourced from Costa Rica and produced in collaboration with the Bri-Bri Tribe, within a Bri-Bri cacao facility that brings together ancestral knowledge and contemporary production methods.
While the cultivation and handling of the cacao are rooted in long-standing relationships with the land, the processing introduces a modern approach: the beans are gently dehydrated rather than roasted.
This method is not traditional, but intentionally chosen to preserve the cacao’s natural character while respecting its origin.
Throughout the entire production process, only women are involved, reflecting a cultural structure in which cacao is held with care, responsibility, and attention.
The dehydration process allows the cacao’s full flavour profile and aromatic depth to unfold naturally when prepared as a cup of hot ceremonial chocolate — resulting in a cacao that is expressive, smooth, and true to both its origin and its modern craftsmanship.

FAQ | THE BEAUTY OF CACAO & OUR OTHER INGREDIENTS
find out more about the amazing benefits
Don't worry, we got you. Here are some answers for your questions.

The term ceremonial cacao is often used today, but it does not refer to a single certification or ritual format.
At Los Kakaoistas, ceremonial cacao describes the quality, processing, and intention behind the cacao — not a claim, and not a costume.
For us, ceremonial cacao is cacao that is:
high-grade and carefully sourced, with traceable origin and respectful production
minimally processed, preserving the cacao’s natural character and compounds
made in small batches, with attention from harvest to final preparation
intended to be prepared consciously, not consumed mindlessly
It is cacao chosen for ritual moments — whether that ritual is a quiet morning cup, a shared gathering, or a moment of pause in a busy day.
Because it is minimally processed, high-grade cacao retains a rich profile of naturally occurring plant compounds, including flavonoids and theobromine, often associated with gentle, sustained energy and focus.
Unlike coffee, cacao offers a slower, steadier energy curve — one that many people experience as grounding rather than stimulating.
This makes it especially suited for moments of:
presence
reflection
creativity
connection
Functional cacao — ceremonial-grade cacao enhanced with botanicals to support everyday ritual and presence
At Los Kakaoistas, functional cacao refers to cacao that is intentionally combined with complementary plant ingredients to support different states of being throughout the day.
The cacao remains the foundation.
Rather than masking or overpowering it, selected botanicals — such as adaptogenic herbs, mushrooms, roots, and spices — are added in thoughtful proportions to work in synergy with cacao’s natural qualities.
Rooted in food, not supplements
Our blends are created as whole-food preparations, not supplements.
All ingredients are:
plant-based
minimally processed
used in culinary quantities
selected for compatibility with cacao’s flavour and character
Function comes from the combination of ingredients, the quality of the cacao, and the way it is prepared and consumed.
Function meets ritual
When cacao is prepared slowly and consumed with attention, the experience extends beyond nutrition.
Functional cacao becomes a bridge between:
nourishment and awareness
daily routine and intentional pause
individual wellbeing and shared experience
Gentle note (important)
Functional cacao refers to culinary and traditional uses of cacao and botanicals.
It is not intended to diagnose, treat, or cure any condition.
Cacao is one of the most nutrient-dense plant foods, valued for both its micronutrient profile and its naturally occurring bioactive compounds.
When cacao is minimally processed, it retains many of the elements that have made it a valued food across cultures for centuries.
Vitamins & Minerals naturally found in cacao
High-quality cacao is a natural source of several essential minerals, including:
Magnesium Contributes to normal muscle function, nervous system function, and energy metabolism. Cacao is one of the richest plant sources of magnesium.
Iron Supports normal oxygen transport in the body and contributes to energy levels.
Potassium Contributes to normal muscle function and electrolyte balance.
Zinc & Copper Involved in immune function, connective tissue formation, and antioxidant processes.
Cacao also contains small amounts of B-vitamins that support normal metabolic function.
Naturally occurring “feel-good” compounds
Cacao is unique among plant foods for its combination of naturally occurring compounds associated with mood and emotional wellbeing:
Phenylethylamine (PEA) Often referred to as the “love molecule,” PEA is associated with feelings of motivation, pleasure, and emotional uplift.
Tryptophan An amino acid involved in the production of serotonin, a neurotransmitter linked to mood balance.
Anandamide Sometimes called the “bliss molecule,” anandamide is naturally present in cacao and is associated with feelings of wellbeing.
Theobromine A gentle stimulant that provides a smoother, longer-lasting sense of alertness compared to caffeine.
Antioxidants & plant compounds
Cacao is rich in flavonoids and polyphenols, plant compounds widely studied for their antioxidant properties.
Research on cocoa flavanols suggests they may contribute to:
healthy circulation and blood flow
cognitive alertness
cardiovascular support as part of a balanced lifestyle
Because ceremonial cacao is minimally processed, it preserves more of these naturally occurring compounds compared to highly processed cocoa products.
Gentle note
Ceremonial cacao is enjoyed as a traditional food and ritual beverage.
It is not intended to diagnose, treat, or cure any condition.

More than a drink
When prepared with care and enjoyed with intention, cacao becomes more than a beverage.
It becomes a container for attention — a way to mark time, gather people, or simply return to yourself.
That is what ceremonial means to us.
